Coroner rules accidental drowning after man died on River Waveney

A coroner has concluded an inquest into the death of a man who died after his boat capsized.

Nathan Strowger had been on the River Waveney, with four friends when the boat began to sink on 10 July.

Four people managed to escape the water near Barnby, Suffolk, but a three-day search began to locate Mr Strowger.

Following an inquest at Ipswich Coroner's Court, senior coroner Nigel Parsley has ruled the 30-year-old died of accidental drowning.

At the time of the incident, Suffolk Police was called by Norfolk Fire & Rescue at 22:10 BST to reports that a boat containing five people was sinking in the river, between North Cove and Barnby.

The emergency services treated four people at the scene but Mr Strowger was unaccounted for, said police.

The force was called to the North Cove area of the river at 21:50 BST on 13 July by a member of the public who had discovered a body.
