Julian De Bono: CCTV released in search for missing Ipswich man

A CCTV image has been released of a man who disappeared following a night out - as specialist divers are brought in to help with the search.

Julian De Bono, 63, was last seen on Yarmouth Road, Ipswich at 01:45 GMT on Sunday, heading towards London Road.

Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (Sulsar) has used kayaks to search the River Gipping in the town this week.

Ch Insp Richard Burton said: "We want to give the water as much attention as possible."

Mr De Bono, from Ipswich, is about 6ft 1in (1.85m) tall and of slim build. He has a receding hairline, with a trimmed grey and black beard.

He was wearing a white, partially see-through shirt, with red trousers and high-shine black shoes, police said.

Mr De Bono went to a work event on Saturday evening, before heading back to Ipswich town centre to continue his night, said police.

CCTV footage and eyewitnesses put him on Yarmouth Road shortly before 02:00 GMT, but Suffolk Police has re-appealed for CCTV and dashcam footage from the area, which may aid the investigation.

Ch Insp Burton said: "We have carried out a number of searches in the area led by specialist officers, including the shops and car parks.

"We've carried out house-to-house inquiries, as well as digital and financial inquiries."

He said that it was "out of character" for Mr De Bono, who has not been missing before.

Drones have been used as part of the search, and specialist divers are expected to enter the river on Saturday.

"We can't rule anything out," added Ch Insp Burton.

Mr De Bono's family has appealed on Facebook for anyone with information to get in touch.

"They're very concerned, as you would expect, so we're doing everything we can to provide them the support that they deserve," said Ch Insp Burton.

Police said Sulsar was supporting the investigation and had searched the banks of the river, near Yarmouth Road, using kayaks.
