Work 'imminent' on Long Stratton's long-awaited A140 bypass
Robin Webster/GeographWork is expected to begin soon on a £47m bypass that residents of a town have campaigned about for decades.
The A140 at Long Stratton, Norfolk, on the main road between Ipswich and Norwich, is known as a traffic "pinch point".
A 2.5-mile (3.9km) A140 bypass near the town was approved by the government last year.
Norfolk County Council said work would begin "without delay" as soon as the final funding settlement was confirmed.
This was expected "imminently", it added.
It means traffic on the main road will no longer cut through Long Stratton.
Access to the area for businesses and residents will be maintained throughout the construction of the bypass, with the works due to be completed in autumn 2025.
It added Church Lane, Edge's Lane, Hall Lane and Parkers Lane, would be closed for the duration of the works.
