A project to build a £47m bypass has moved a step closer after a contractor was announced.

The 2.5-mile (3.9km) A140 bypass at Long Stratton, Norfolk, was approved by the government last year.

Residents have long campaigned for a new road to take traffic on the A140, the main road between Ipswich and Norwich, away from the town.

Octavius Infrastructure Ltd has now been appointed by the county council to carry out the work.

Work to prepare the area is already taking place, and the main construction of the bypass is expected to begin in the spring.
