A charity which supports bereaved children in Norfolk said an appeal to fund a support worker had surpassed its target by more than a third.

Nelson's Journey, based at Little Plumstead, near Norwich, aimed to raise £25,000 to mark its 25th birthday and recruit a full-time member of staff.

Donations from local businesses eventually topped £33,000.

Chief executive Simon Wright said the money raised would have a "huge impact" for children and young people.

"Nelson's Journey's services are not paid for by large government contracts, and without the fundraising support of local people and organisations we simply wouldn't exist," he added.

The additional funds would be invested into the capacity of its services, the charity said.
