Detectives investigating a suspected hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of a man have made an arrest.

Tommy Hunter, 27, was reported missing on Sunday at about 02:00 GMT after leaving a nightclub in Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire.

A body believed to be his was found by Derbyshire Police in hedges off Burton Road near the town just after 08:30 on Monday.

His father, Mark Hunter, said his son "loved a laugh and a joke".

A 26-year-old man, who has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, remains in custody.

Mr Hunter's dad added: "Everybody loved Tommy. He was the life and soul. He loved his football and he loved Derby. He loved a laugh and a joke.

"He could be a bit of a nuisance, but nobody disliked him."

Leicestershire Police believe the deceased was walking along Burton Road - towards Boundary in Derbyshire - in the early hours of Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle that failed to stop.

His body was discovered between The Taphouse pub and the junction for Bishop Hall Road, the force added.
