Plans to open a banking hub in Ashby-de-la-Zouch have been announced.

It will consist of a counter service, operated by Post Office employees, where customers of any bank can withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments and carry out banking transactions.

The recommendation from Link, the UK's cash access and ATM network, comes after NatWest announced it would be closing the town's branch on 18 September.

Cash Access UK, which will deliver the hub, is set to consult with the community and search for potential locations.

The new hub, which will be the fourth in Leicestershire, is expected to open in June 2026.

Across the UK there are 160 banking hubs, including those in Lutterworth, Syston and Market Harborough.

The banks work on a rotating basis, so there will be staff from different banks available on different days of the week, Link said.

Dr Chris Ashton, chief commercial officer of Link, said: "While more people are choosing to bank and pay for things digitally, we know that many people still rely on cash and face-to-face banking.

"That's why we're delighted to recommend the hub in Ashby-de-la-Zouch."
