Car driver critical in M1 lorry crash in Leicestershire

A man is in a critical condition after a crash involving a car and a lorry on the M1 in Leicestershire.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between junctions 18 and 19 at 03:15 BST after reports the car driver was trapped.

The fire service said the man was freed from his BMW 320 and taken to hospital with serious injuries, which police have described as critical.

The stretch of the M1 was closed for several hours.

Leicestershire Police have appealed for information and dashcam footage of the crash.
