Peterborough MP raises concern over Werrington Fields fence plans

An MP has raised concerns about council plans to fence off playing fields used by the public.

Peterborough City Council has said it needs to safeguard secondary school pupils from Ken Stimpson Academy who use Werrington Fields for play.

Paul Bristow, the city's Conservative MP, has written to the council to pass on locals' worries.

He claimed, in a letter to the council, that many of his constituents were disappointed by the proposals.

"Many of my constituents were disappointed," Mr Bristow said in the letter.

"I would urge the council not to enclose the fields in this way."

The row over Werrington Fields began in 2019, when the council first proposed fencing off part of them for use by the school during term time, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported.

The council said the move followed "incidents of antisocial and threatening behaviour".
