A PE and science teacher has made it to the final of Channel 4 TV show The Great British Bake Off.

Matty Edgell, 28, from Peterborough, impressed judges with his three-tier "taste of Italy" millefoglie showstopper in the semi-final episode.

"Who'd have thought. I've never told anyone I feel like I'm a good baker," he said on Tuesday's programme.

Judge Paul Hollywood described his puff pastry as a "bit too rubbery" but said he loved the flavours.

Fellow judge Prue Leith said it looked "like a celebration".

He will join two other contestants, Dan Hunter and Josh Smalley, for the final next week.

Mr Edgell, who started out as one of 12 bakers on the series, said he had a "fair few days of practice coming up".
