Owners of the Mall will change external and internal signage to reflect the shopping destination's new name

A shopping centre with more than 120 shops will change its name again after being purchased by the retail company Frasers Group.

The site opened as The Arndale Centre in 1972 but was renamed to The Mall Luton in 2006.

Asset Managers Sovereign Centros has submitted plans to Luton Borough Council to change the building's signage to the new name of Luton Point.

It would install the new branding by early 2024.

The name is similar to The Point in Milton Keynes, which was one of the UK's first multiplex cinemas when it opened in 1985.

Mark Stapleton of Sovereign Centros hopes the new identity is "in keeping with the centre's place within the town".

Frasers Group, which is owned by Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley, bought the centre in March, saying it was a "key retail destination" in March.
