The housing secretary will decide if plans for 8,400 homes near Sittingbourne can go ahead.

Campaigners say the plans will have a detrimental impact on both the area and its wildlife.

Swale Borough Council's "Cycle-re-Cycle" project sent the bikes to HMP Swaleside for refurbishment.

A donation day for food, bicycles and clothing takes place in Sittingbourne on 5 October.

Councillors in the west of the borough say Sheppey and Sittingbourne have already played their part.

Residents can receive food and fuel vouchers as well as help accessing the Household Support Fund.

Supporters say the installation near Sittingbourne would have powered 11,500 homes.

The plan is being opposed by Kent Wildlife Trust because of its location next to South Blean Woods.
