Moor fire cause 'still undetermined' - officers

Fire chiefs are still investigating a wildfire which swept across a West Yorkshire moor over the weekend.

The fire broke out at around midday on Saturday at Blakeley Reservoir on Marsden Moor.

It took eight fire crews to extinguish the blaze, with the flames reported to be out by 17:30 BST.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was "still undetermined".

A spokesperson said the incident was "still under investigation".

Wildfires on Marsden Moor, which is owned by the National Trust, have been a frequent problem in recent years.

Two "vast" blazes were started on the Moor in April 2023, in what fire crews said were deliberate acts of arson.

The previous year, a 28-year-old man was jailed for setting off a firework on the land in 2021, which resulted in 285 hectares of moorland being set alight.
