A derelict seaside amusement arcade is set to be demolished.

Canterbury City Council bought the former Tivoli Amusements on Central Parade, in Herne Bay, for £1.1 million in 2018, but it did not attract a buyer when the council tried to sell the building.

The building has since stood derelict.

At a full council meeting on 24 October the cabinet member for economic development, Chris Cornell, revealed the building will be levelled in spring 2025.

Mr Cornell said the first phase of demolition had been completed in the summer, leaving only the adjoining residential property and the former Tivoli Arcade frontage.

“The second phase of physical works will also include the demolition of the former Tivoli Arcade,” he said.

Options for the site including selling it or developing it alone or with a partner.

There had been planning permission for the land behind the arcade to be converted into three shops and 31 homes, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
