A man has admitted causing the death of a woman who was killed in a crash during a police pursuit.

Amber Deakin, 18, died after the Vauxhall Vectra, which was driven by Jordan Spalding, crashed on Baildon Road, near Pasture Road, in Bradford on 3 January 2023.

Spalding, 24, and his co-accused Shakeel Ahmed, 28, made their first appearance at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Spalding, of Wharncliffe Crescent, pleaded guilty. Mr Ahmed was not asked to enter a plea.

The court was told Spalding was fully aware a substantial custodial sentence was inevitable but that he could not be sentenced until the case against his co-accused was resolved.

Recorder of Bradford, Judge Jonathan Rose, fixed a potential trial date for Mr Ahmed on 4 April next year.

Judge Rose told Spalding he was disqualified from driving with immediate effect and repeated that there would be no alternative to a substantial sentence of imprisonment.

Both Spalding and Mr Ahmed, of Moresby Road, had their conditional bail extended.

Mr Ahmed was told his next hearing had been listed to take place on 28 February 2025.
