Full-day closures of part of the A350 in Wiltshire have been cancelled, but planned overnight closures on weekdays are still happening.

Overnight closures of the road going through Westbury started this week, and work stopped on the A36 so drivers have an alternative route.

Westbury Town Council has been in contact with the contractors, who said there was a design change, so only overnight closures are needed.

The A350 work is to repair the road and paint new markings which Wiltshire Council said should help "strengthen" it.

Overnight closures on the A350 will continue until 9 November

Councillor Nick Holder - the cabinet member for highways at Wiltshire Council - apologised for any disruption and said the work was costing around £500,000: "As ever, fixing the roads is never an easy thing to do and we think doing it in the evening we will limit the amount of disruption."

The council worked with National Highways to get the A36 temporarily re-opened.

The A350 through Westbury is known for being very busy, with large lorries having to go through the middle of the town.

There have been ongoing arguments about restrictions in Bath causing even more traffic in Westbury.

Mr Holder said: "We've had to strengthen the road. This is the third phase of work we've carried out to the A350 through Westbury."
