Woman "critical" after being hit by van

A 69-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a van near Castle Howard in North Yorkshire.

A red Renault Kangoo collided with the woman on Castle Howard Station Road in Welburn at around 13:30 GMT on Monday and police confirmed she is in a critical condition.

North Yorkshire Police said she was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance and the driver of the van is assisting them with their enquiries.

The force also said it is appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incident to come forward.

The investigation continues.
