A former pub could be transformed into a 22-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO), if plans are approved.

The Albert Hotel and Sports Bar, in Anlaby Road, Hull, closed in 2024.

Proposals include 14 single rooms and eight double rooms, allowing a maximum of 30 occupants in the building.

The application will now be reviewed by Hull City Council.

The building currently has an existing 23-bay car park, which would remain and be made available to residents of the HMO, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

In addition to the car park, a cycle shelter would be added to the rear of the property.

The proposed layout of the shared housing would be eight bedrooms on the ground floor, nine on the first floor and five on the second floor.

If the application is approved, trees will be planted at the rear of the site, new windows installed and the inside of the pub remodelled.

Planning documents addressed concerns people may have with a pub being replaced with a HMO.

The documents read: "The public house has been closed for some time but residents have other public houses nearby, which can be used so the change of use would not lead to any adverse social impact on the community."
