Springwatch presenter Chris Packham has picked up a solo art exhibition in Kent - of penguin photographs.

The Christmas Penguins consists of original photos of the birds to celebrate the naturalist's lifelong love of the birds.

The pictures feature chinstrap, adelie and king penguins among other breeds in the Antarctic and will be on display at Taylor-Jones & Son gallery in Deal until 5 January.

Packham said of the birds: "They are so very photogenic. Add in their harsh, exotic and beautiful environment and you have backdrops that are almost out of this world."

Packham, who lives in the New Forest, Hampshire, will be signing prints at the gallery on Sunday, 24 November from 11:30 to 12:30 GMT.

Gallery director Richard Taylor-Jones said of the show: "Packham has produced a show that is both fun and engaging, showing penguins to be the charismatic creatures they are, yet also vulnerable in an increasingly fragile landscape.

"Photography as a medium has become more and more collectable in the art world, particularly with well known names and I have no doubt this show is going to be incredibly popular – we are very excited to be hosting it.”
