Brothers ordered to repay drug dealing money
Two brothers convicted for drug dealing offences have been ordered to pay back almost £75,000 between them.
A judge made the order under the Proceeds of Crime Act at Bradford Crown Court on Friday.
The hearing was told that Daniel Shaw, 27, had benefited to the tune of about £817,000 from his criminality, while Joseph Shaw, 31, had benefited to the sum of roughly £61,000.
The younger brother was told he must repay his available amount of about £24,000, while the older brother was ordered to repay about £49,000.
Joseph Shaw, who had been released from a six-and-a-half year sentence which was imposed on him in January 2023, was told he would face another 12 months in prison if he did not pay back the money within three months.
Daniel Shaw, who is serving a 10-and-a-half year sentence, was told he faced a further eight months in prison if he did not repay what he owed over the same period.
Judge Clayson also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of all the drugs seized in the case.
The court heard the brothers were arrested after a man walked into a police station in August 2021 and told officers about a stash of drugs and cash being stored at his Bradford home.
During the police investigation, officers searched a house in Low Moor and found about 30 kilos of heroin and almost £100,000 in cash in a padlocked sports bag.
The court heard Daniel Shaw, formerly of Albion Road, Bradford, and Joseph Shaw, of Green Road, Baildon, had no previous convictions.
During their sentence hearing in January last year, Judge Ahmed Nadim said the pair had committed offences “in the pursuit of riches and a lifestyle” outside their reach.
The brothers sat next to each other in the dock and exchanged a fist bump at the end of Friday's hearing before the older brother was taken back down into custody.
