Man jailed for being involved in supplying drugs

A man has been jailed for being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis.

In April, a drugs investigation found messages on a mobile involving Indrit Ismailaj, 23, of no fixed abode, discussing supplying cocaine across Suffolk, as well as recruiting people to undertake the deliveries.

He denied two charges, but a jury in a six-day trial at Ipswich Crown Court in October found him guilty after two hours.

He was jailed for four years, while the court ordered the destruction of his mobile phone and the forfeiture of £6,360.

On 29 April, officers stopped a grey Mercedes GLB travelling on the westbound carriageway of the A14 towards Felixstowe.

The two male occupants were detained and a search of the vehicle found a mobile phone.

Its examination found messages consistent with an involvement in the supply of drugs.

Further analysis found Ismailaj was discussing the supply of cocaine in Ipswich, Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds and other areas.

According to Suffolk Police, the messages included details of recruitment for drug deliveries, as well as arrangements for re-supplies of drugs.

The rate of messaging was an average of 175 per day.

A search was also carried out at a flat on College Street, Ipswich, where £6,360 in cash was found, as well as a small amount of cannabis.

In the trial, the jury heard nine hours of expert witness evidence.

He was sentenced to four years imprisonment for being concerned in the supply of cocaine, as well as nine months to run concurrently for being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years and six months.
