Digital student IDs accepted on buses

Digital student IDs are now accepted on National Express West Midlands buses, the operator has said.

By using a new app, students can now prove they qualify for a cheaper fare on the local bus network in the West Midlands and Coventry, rather than using their physical ID.

The app shows key information, such as a photo, university email, and verified student status, and provided reliable confirmation of student status, the operator said.

Adam Rideout, from National Express West Midlands, said the move improved passenger experience.

The operator said it had partnered with digital identity firm Yoti to accept the new IDs.

Robin Tombs, Yoti CEO said: "We’re delighted National Express West Midlands is the first to accept Student IDs, helping students prove their status and access discounted travel tickets more easily."
