Wolverhampton and Solihull have been shortlisted to host the event

Wolverhampton residents are being urged to vote in support of the city hosting an event to celebrate people's recovery from addiction.

The National Recovery Walk is held in different towns and cities each year and includes a parade involving former addicts along with their families and friends in a "Recovery Village", the city council said.

The city was invited to submit a bid to host it in 2025 and is now appealing to people to vote online to back the bid after being shortlisted along with Solihull.

If the Wolverhampton bid is successful, the event will be held in West Park on 13 September.

The bid is being led by The Good Shepherd and Wolverhampton Voluntary and Community Action’s Service User Involvement Team (SUIT) and people can vote on social media via Faces and Voices of Recovery (FAVOUR).

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, cabinet member for adults and wellbeing, urged people to support the effort.

"Hosting the National Recovery Walk will be a great opportunity to highlight the importance of recovery and demonstrate our city's commitment to supporting those on their recovery journey.

"As a council, we are dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing, and we see this event as a vital step in our ongoing efforts to support recovery and resilience in our communities."
