Library back in historic building after renovation
A town library has reopened at its permanent home, after weeks of refurbishment.
Wellington Library on Fore Street needed work to improve the accessibility and thermal efficiency of the building.
Somerset Council said renovation to the fabric of the early 19th century Grade-I listed building was also required.
The library moved to a temporary home on nearby North Street on 7 September while the work was completed.
“The upgraded premises, housing the library and health and well-being services, creates a wonderful hub for the local community and visitors alike,” said Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts.
Somerset Council put a couple of measures in place aimed at making the transition back to the Fore Street site simpler for library users. All items on loan were automatically renewed until at least 21 October, giving people more time to return.
Items overdue before the closure were automatically renewed, but customers still have to pay the overdue charge.
Wellington Library's opening hours will be, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30am – 5.00pm, and Thursday and Saturday 9:30am -1:00pm.
