A second person has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, remains in hospital after he was attacked during a fight in the Teams area of Gateshead on Saturday.

An 18-year-old woman was initially arrested and has since been released on bail.

Northumbria Police said an 18-year-old man has also been arrested and remains in police custody.

The stabbing is believed to have taken place during a fight involving a group of people on Derwentwater Road.

Emergency services were called to nearby Morris Street at about 15:45 GMT on Saturday after receiving reports a man had been injured.

The victim was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

The force said its enquiries are ongoing.
