A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm

A man has been arrested after a suspected stabbing in Torquay, police say.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called at 12.20 GMT on Tuesday to Castle Circus to reports that a man was stabbed. He was later taken to hospital.

A 49-year-old man from Paignton was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and taken into custody.

A scene guard remained in place at Castle Circus with restrictions to Union Street and Tor Hill Road, officers said.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information to get in contact.
