A former police special superintendent has appeared in court charged with sexual assault.

Christopher Gliddon, 28, from Great Bardfield near Braintree in Essex, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court.

The court heard Mr Gliddon was accused of one count of sexual assault, which was alleged to have taken place between January 2019 and July 2021.

He did not enter a plea and was granted conditional bail.

The case was sent to Ipswich Crown Court, where Mr Gliddon is due to appear at the end of this month.

Essex Police said he resigned as a special in April last year.
