Roadworks reprieve over festive period

Residents in Beverley will be able to travel more freely over the festival period with a popular route set to temporarily reopen.

Traffic management on a stretch of the A164 between the Victoria/Morrison's roundabout and Ward Way roundabout will be removed between 06:00 GMT on 19 December and 06:00 on 6 January 2025.

A spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) said the restrictions will be removed "while our project team takes a festive break".

The work is part of the £86.9m A164 Jock's Lodge improvement scheme.

The spokesperson also said the area around Minster Way and Lincoln Way "will be left in a safe condition before the Christmas shut down".

The Jock's Lodge junction links two of the area's busiest roads - the A164 (Beverley to the Humber Bridge) and the A1079 (Hull to York).

The improvement scheme includes:

  • A new roundabout along the A1079 and a new road connecting it with the Lincoln Way/Minster Way roundabout in Beverley
  • Two new roads, travelling northbound and southbound, which will connect the new A1079 roundabout with the A164 further south, near Coppleflat Lane, Bentley
  • The A164 will also be widened into a dual carriageway between Coppleflat Lane and the roundabout with the B1233 Harland Way, Cottingham.

Work on the improvement scheme began in July and is expected to be completed in late 2026.
