Police have been searching a stretch of coastline on the Isle of Wight after the discovery of a human bone.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said a member of the public found the bone on the shoreline at King's Quay, Whippingham, in April.

It has been sent for forensic and DNA testing but the origin of the bone and the identity of the person it belonged to was currently unknown, said the force.

Officers carried out a further search of the area on Friday but no additional human remains were found.

There were no suggested links to criminal activity, according to police, who said they remained focused on identifying the deceased person.
