Skatepark opens after community campaign
A new skatepark has opened for community use in Devon.
Nearly £40,000 for the park in Kingsbridge was raised through a crowdfunder scheme, with Sport England then offering £100,000 after the high level of local support.
South Hams District Council said the project, which began in September 2023, was now complete following the installation of new fencing.
Adam Sherring, from the Kingsbridge Skatepark Community Group, said the park would greatly benefit young people.
"The ongoing support of people in and around Kingsbridge has been humbling, and the skatepark will bring real and long lasting improvement to the quality of life of young people in the town," he said.
"I couldn’t be prouder of the way Kingsbridge has pulled together to deliver this."
Kingsbridge Town Council also provided further funding of £50,000, South Hams District Council gave £30,000 and a further £25,000 came from developer contributions.
The council said there would be a formal opening of the park later in spring.
