A police officer has admitted to drink driving after he was involved in a crash while on his way to work.

Liam Williams, 20, has been disqualified from driving for 12 months and was handed a £250 fine over the incident on Deansway, Worcester, on the morning of 18 February.

Mr Williams, who was suspended by West Mercia Police following the offence, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday.

West Mercia Police said he would face disciplinary proceedings.

Head of the force's professional standards department, Supt Mel Paley, said: "Liam Williams drove to work when he was over the drink-drive limit and quite rightly faced the consequences of this, as any member of the public would.

"He pleaded guilty to this offence and will now face a 12-month driving ban.

"He will be subject to the disciplinary process in due course."
