More than 20 face court over Morrisons fly-tipping
More than 20 people face potential prosecution for fly-tipping at a supermarket situated just two miles from a waste and recycling centre.
Gravesham Borough Council said it was clamping down on fly-tipping at the Morrisons in Northfleet, Gravesend.
Having taken action against 35 fly-tippers in August last year, the council has since issued another 37 fixed penalty notices against those caught fly-tipping at the Coldharbour Road site.
More than 20 of those cases, which involve larger scale offences and failures-to-pay fixed penalty notices, are now being referred to the magistrates' court.
Shane Mochrie-Cox, the council's cabinet member for strategic environment, said the 37 notices issued since the summer "won't be the last".
"The behaviour of a few inconsiderate and lazy individuals is having a disproportionate effect on the law-abiding members of our community who recycle responsibly," he said.
Mochrie-Cox said more than 120 offences had been recorded on camera since last summer, despite the site being just two miles from the Pepperhill household waste and recycling centre.
