Cyclist taken to hospital after Westminster crash

A female cyclist has been taken to hospital with "potentially life-changing" injuries after a crash with a lorry in central London.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene in Parliament Square and the London Ambulance Service said paramedics "treated a woman at the scene and took her to a major trauma centre as a priority".

The Metropolitan Police said the lorry driver had stopped after the incident, which had happened at about 11:30 BST near the junction with Bridge Street.

The force said no one had been arrested and that "the circumstances will be investigated". Road closures are currently in place.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "The cyclist, a female, was taken to hospital. Her condition is not being treated as life-threatening but may potentially be life-changing."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed they attended after receiving reports of a crash.

"We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance," they said.

"We treated a woman at the scene and took her to a major trauma centre as a priority."
