A bomb disposal unit is assessing the item found on Worthing beach

Emergency services are dealing with a suspected unexploded bomb in West Sussex.

The Royal Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is assessing the item, found on Worthing beach at roughly 17:00 GMT on Thursday.

Coastguard rescue teams are also at the scene.

A spokesperson for the coastguard said: "HM Coastguard was alerted of a suspected ordnance near Worthing Beach.

Emergency services are working into the night

"Littlehampton and Shoreham Coastguard Rescue Teams are currently on scene and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is also in attendance to assess it."

Sussex Police has been approached for comment.
