A hand grenade found in a residential area of Cornwall has been safely removed by a bomb disposal unit, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was notified that a grenade had been found in the Bosorne Road area of St Just at about 13:20 GMT on Friday.

The Royal Navy EOD Team confirmed the device was a World War Two mills bomb - a pineapple-shaped hand grenade.

It said the device was taken to Devonport in Plymouth where it was made safe.

The team thanked the public for contacting the emergency services quickly after the bomb was found.

A 50m (164ft) cordon that had been put in place has been lifted.
