Road to close as works move into second phase
The second phase of a 10-week road improvement project begins this week.
Roadworks on the A5086 Main Street, in Cleator, west Cumbria, mean the highway will be closed to most vehicles from Monday, for five weeks.
School buses will be permitted to pass through in the morning and afternoon, and waste collections on affected routes will continue according to their normal schedule.
A footpath will be provided, allowing access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists, Cumberland Council said.
The road upgrade, which began last month, forms part of a £14.3m Levelling Up Fund programme and includes essential repairs, drainage replacement, traffic sign updates and refreshed road markings.
The local authority said it was working with Stagecoach to minimise disruption to bus services over the coming weeks.
