Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a house in the village of Staplecross.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) were called to the fire at what they called a "large property" in Northiam Road at 04:20 BST on Wednesday.

Road closures remain in place and nearby residents were urged to avoid the area and keep their windows and doors shut, ESFRS said.

The service said the blaze also effected surrounding buildings, though added its response had since been scaled down.

"Crews are damping down to ensure the fire is completely out," ESFRS said.

It added that two fire engines remained at the scene at about 14:45 - down from eight at the height of the incident.
