Train evacuated after it crashes into fallen tree

A train was evacuated after it hit a tree which had fallen on the tracks.

Sixty passengers were removed from an East Midlands Railway service from Nottingham to Norwich at Wymondham, in Norfolk, at 08:13 BST.

The rail operator said nobody was injured and a maintenance team were on site and working to repair damage to the train so it could be moved.

Greater Anglia said its services between Norwich, Cambridge and London Stansted Airport, in Essex, were "severely disrupted" as a result of the crash.

"The train now has to be rescued and the tree removed in order for trains to run on the line," the rail provider said on social media.

The passengers were transferred onto another train which completed the journey to Norwich.

It was not known how long disruption would continue for, Greater Anglia said.
