Organisers say they hope a Pride event being held for the first time will become an annual event.

Cleveland Pride is taking place at Saltburn-by-the-Sea with many of activities held on the beach.

The programme has been organised by Pride in Tees Valley and co-ordinated by the charity Curious Arts.

Chief executive Phil Douglas said: "Pride events are just so important for breaking down barriers, and making people feel included and valued".

Sunday's Pride will include the Curious Caravan where a team will record people's stories

The event gets under way at 10:00 BST on Saltburn beach with a free sandcastle competition followed by beach yoga.

The Bobby Dazzler stage at the Marine Parade Picnic Site will host live performances from midday.

There will also be a team of volunteers on hand at the Curious Caravan "capturing the memories of Saltburn's first Pride event", and celebrating the local LGBTQIA+ community.

"We want to capture people's stories", explained Mr Douglas, "because often people have been too afraid to tell them before".

Other events include storytelling from Pam the Dinner Lady and family crafts will take place at Saltburn Arts and Saltburn Library.

"If the weather stays good, we're hoping to have a really great turnout" Mr Douglas added.

"The real focus of this one is on families. We want people to bring the kids, bring the grandparents, it'll be a lovely calm, welcoming atmosphere."
