Operations have been suspended at a household waste recycling centre (HWRC) which reopened last month, due to further subsidence problems.

Wombourne HWRC will remain closed while more work is carried out to investigate the situation, Staffordshire County Council said.

The centre partially reopened last month after being closed for several weeks due to subsidence.

But problems have reappeared and the site has been closed again.

Residents who live in certain postcode areas of South Staffordshire would be able to use the recycling centre in Stourbridge, the council said, while other residents could use the site at Bilbrook.

David Atkinson from Staffordshire County Council said: "We regret the inconvenience because we want to provide the best possible service to the public, but safety comes first.

"We do have an alternative arrangement in place with Dudley Council, for which we’re grateful, so depending where they live residents can travel to Stourbridge or Bilbrook, or use ‘bring banks’ in their communities."
