Dozens of homes planned on village greenfield site

More than 80 homes could be built on the outskirts of a village after plans were submitted.

Construction company Taylor Wimpey wants to develop a greenfield site off Pool House Road in Wombourne, Staffordshire.

It has applied to South Staffordshire District Council to build 89 homes on the site, 36 of which (40% of the total) would be affordable housing, as well as a play area and new wildlife habitats.

"Pool House Road, Wombourne will be a highly desirable place to live for the 21st Century and beyond," said the applicant.

The development would include a mix of two and three-storey houses and bungalows.

The application said an assessment had concluded that local wildlife would not be significantly affected by the development although a number of badger setts were found on the site.

It acknowledged these would have to be destroyed although they would be replaced with artificial setts.

The application also proposed reducing the speed limit on Pool House Road from 40 to 30 mph, through the use of traffic calming measures.

The application added: "The proposals respect the local character but also move the community towards a more sustainable future, through a significant increase in housing choice."

A decision on the application will be taken at a future date by the council.
