Plans have been submitted for an expanded supermarket as part of of tourist apartment development in the south of the Isle of Man.

The larger Co-Op store would be created as part of a broader project to create six flats for use as tourist accommodation on Station Road in Port Erin.

The application is by JM Project Management, which was the company behind a housing development in Crosby in 2021 that also featured a new supermarket.

The firm said Port Erin's current Co-Op branch was "too small to cope with demand" and the plans had the support of the local authority.

The development would be on a site currently occupied by a former chapel at the junction of Station Road and Droghadfayle Road.

The building had previously housed a funeral directors, florist and a joinery workshop.

Included in the plans are an associated car park, service yard, bin storage area and two electric vehicle charging points.

The proposed building is described as being architecturally based on the Crosby shop, with locally quarried stone, a slate roof construction and a glass frontage.

The new Co-Op store would have 3,714sq ft, 375 sq m) retail space, with 23 parking spaces provided

The existing shop is based on the same road further along the high street.

The apartments, which would be built on the first floor above the supermarket, would include four with two bedrooms and two one-bedroom units.
