Public invited to hear about road resurfacing plans

Road users and residents will be given the opportunity to find out more about a project to resurface part of the A1 in Nottinghamshire.

National Highways is resurfacing the road between the A57/A614 at Apleyhead, near Retford, and the A17/A46 at Newark.

Some work is already taking place with overnight lane and slip road closures, but sections of the carriageway will need to shut overnight from 6 January until 23 May.

National Highways will host public information events about the project on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The work will be carried out in stages on weekdays between 20:00 GMT and 06:00, starting southbound before northbound closures start in March.

Diversions will be in place during the work, which will also see high friction surfacing, road markings and road studs be replaced where required.

Project manager Gabriella Stone said full closures were needed "to ensure the safety of workers".

She said: "The condition of the road is deteriorating so it is important that we carry out this essential maintenance to ensure safety and improve the quality of journeys for people travelling along this route."

The first public information event will take place at A1 Markham Moor Services, on the northbound carriageway near Retford, on Monday.

Further events will take place at Brownhills Motorhomes in Newark on Tuesday and at A1 Moto Blyth Services on Wednesday.

All three events will take place between 10:00 and 16:00.
