Coastguards say they dug the woman out with shovels before she was ferried to safety

A woman who got stuck in mud on a beach was rescued in an operation "which went like clockwork", coastguards have said.

Fleetwood Coastguard team answered the 999 call but called on their colleagues in Knott End to use their all-terrain vehicle to help bring the woman to safety from Fleetwood beach.

Three mud rescue technicians from Fleetwood dug the woman out with shovels before she was taken for a medical check by the Knott End team.

"They then kindly returned and picked up our techs to save them from the long trudge back to Promenade," Fleetwood Coastguard posted on Facebook.

It added: "The rescue went like clockwork and with the casualty fit and well, the team returned to station to clean the kit and get back to their Sunday."
