A man who admitted owning a stun gun after a stash of 70 weapons including swords, a crossbow and throwing stars were found at his home has been given a community order.

David Walker, 38, was charged with possession of a weapon, firearm and ammunition for a firearm after a police raid on his home on Alexandra Street, Thorne, Doncaster.

He pleaded guilty to the three offences at Doncaster Magistrates' Court on 17 January.

The haul of weapons, which also included a stun device, two knuckledusters and 38 knives, was seized by South Yorkshire Police after they executed a warrant at Walker's home in December.

"Weapons like these have no place in our society, and we take firearms offences very seriously," said Det Con Molly Simm.

"They have since been completely removed from circulation, with no weapons returned to Walker following the search of the property."

Walker was charged with possessing a weapon - namely a "stun gun knuckle duster", possessing firearm ammunition without a certificate, and possessing a firearm without a certificate.

He was fined £100 fine and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge.

He must also complete a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement imposed by a community order.
