A former care home which has seen no residents for eight years is to be converted into housing.

Dormers, in Foxon Lane, Caterham, was closed by Surrey County Council in 2016.

It was briefly used as a vaccination hub during the Covid-19 pandemic, but has otherwise been vacant.

The site has been bought by Tandridge District Council which intends to build up to 20 net zero homes.

The properties will be equipped with technology such as solar panels and air-source heat pumps.

Jeremy Pursehouse, chairman of coouncil's housing committee, said: "This not only supports climate change but helps our residents to keep their energy costs lower.”
