Golf course homes plan granted outline permission

Plans to build 1,500 homes on a golf course have been given outline planning permission.
The decision was made at a special Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council meeting on Thursday night.
The development on the council-owned woodlands and open space by Property developer, Cala Homes includes a primary and secondary school and shops.
The proposals have been met with criticism from residents with almost 200 letters objecting to the plans submitted to the council.

If it goes ahead the estate, called the Elizabeth Quarter, close to Maidenhead Town Centre and railway station would include 30% affordable housing and a number of custom self-build homes.
Existing buildings on the golf course site would be knocked down.
Local residents who raised concerns about losing the 132-acre (53-hectare) open space formed Maidenhead Great Park in 2020 to campaign against the homes.
Following the decision, resident John Hudson, said councillors had "ignored a lot of things just to suit themselves and so I think it's a very poor outcome for the borough and the residents".
Another campaigner Tina Quadrino said: "I'm devastated obviously, but we fight on, it's not done".
Developers will now submit detailed plans on how the homes will look and give more specifics on the cycle paths, green spaces and play areas included in their scheme.
