Plans for 60 extra care flats in Liskeard unveiled

Cornwall Council has submitted an outline planning application for 60 extra care apartments on the site of a car park and adult education centre in Liskeard.
The plans are for 51 one-bedroom flats and nine with two bedrooms, with communal spaces, including a hairdressing and beauty room at the Laity House site on Greenbank Road.
The council said more extra care homes were needed with increasing demand from the aging population in the county.
It added that it planned to move the adult education centre in Laity House to a new building at the former cattle market.
'Extra healthcare needed'
The proposals include 10 affordable properties and the buildings will vary in height up to four storeys.
The site is next to Grade II listed Luxstowe House, built in 1831 and a home, and now used as the council's Liskeard registration office and wedding venue.
According to the design and access statement by Trewin Design Architects, extra care homes were "essential" due to Cornwall's aging population and the demand for specialised housing and support".
It said providing extra care homes allowed older people to stay in their communities and keep their social connections.
The homes would have flat roofs, which could have solar panels, green roofs and a resident's garden, according to the statement.
NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board said the development would mean extra healthcare provision is needed and asked for the developers to make a contribution to this.
The proposals are to be considered by planning officers at a later date.
