Firefighters have rescued a five-year-old dog who became trapped in a van after she chewed through a lock.

Staffordshire bull terrier Pearl was in the back of the vehicle on Newland Road in Coventry before a crew from Binley fire station freed her.

West Midlands Fire Service got into the van using small tools and the dog was "fit and well".

Advice was given to the vehicle's owner.

The fire service used specialist equipment during the afternoon to gain access to the small van and left the scene within 45 minutes.

A 4x4 brigade response vehicle had been deployed to the road on 30 September.

In good spirits after her release, Pearl thought a trainee firefighter's helmet was a large tennis ball.
