A council is encouraging people to support families who are struggling this winter by donating goods to their local food banks.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is urging residents to give items to the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERFPA) over the festive period.

ERFPA runs 13 food banks across East Yorkshire and is accepting a variety of goods, including canned food, toiletries and festive treats.

Councillor Lyn Healing said: "It's important to give back this Christmas and help support those in need."

She urged people to "get involved and help this vital cause" by donating items to one of the food banks in the area.
